Rock Climbing
Last week the kids started a rock climbing class at the parks and rec center. There personalities came shining through on their first climb.
Cole was cautious. Very attentive to the rules and procedures. He carefully feels out each possible move before committing to a new place to grip and works his way across the wall in exactly the way the teacher has instructed and is sure to collect all of the rings hung on the wall. He takes his time and when he's done he is tired out and red faced. He is focused and determined and this is hard work.
Aviana was exhilarated. She was oblivious to the fact that there were any rules. She was quiet and calm while the teacher talked but it was clear from the expression on her face that all he said was going in one ear and out the other as she looked right past him and up at the top of the wall while he spoke. The first objective was to go from one side of the wall to the other...... Aviana got on the wall, scaled quickly and effortlessly straight to the top. There she announced that she was done and jumped down to the teacher (first rule No jumping off the wall, you have to climb down).
Then we went to the park and they tried to put their new climbing skills to practical use.
